Flight of Freedom

FLIGHT OF FREEDOM. AN ART MAP OF INDEPENDENT UKRAINE

An international cultural diplomacy initiative by Ukrainian artists in Italy

To mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence, the Department of Culture of the National Congress of Ukrainian Associations in Italy (CNAUI), together with the association UN PONTE DI COLORI, launched the international cultural diplomacy initiative “Flight of Freedom. An Art Map of Independent Ukraine”.

The project brought together Ukrainian artists who live and work in Italy around a shared goal: to present Ukraine’s cultural wealth to the world in the language of contemporary art.

As part of the initiative, each artist created an original work dedicated to one of Ukraine’s regions, depicting in their own style a notable architectural, historical or cultural landmark of that region.

The project’s unifying symbol is the crane, an image of freedom, memory, hope and a spiritual bond with the homeland. In the project’s digital concept, its symbolic flight links every region of Ukraine into a single art map of Independent Ukraine.

🇺🇦 On 24 August 2026, Ukraine’s Independence Day, the project was presented online.

It was a symbolic moment of unity for Ukrainian artists who, far from home, go on creating, preserving cultural memory and telling the world about Ukraine.

Taking part in the project

At a time like this it is vitally important to bring together Ukrainian artists living abroad and to create a space for shared creativity, mutual support and cultural dialogue.

In every crane in this project we see a part of ourselves: someone far from home whose heart always remains with Ukraine. This symbol holds our memory, our longing for our homeland, our hope and our faith.

“Flight of Freedom” is only the beginning of a major international project that, through art and culture, will unite Ukrainians in different countries and tell the world about Ukraine, its people, its cultural heritage and its freedom.

“Flight of Freedom. An Art Map of Independent Ukraine” is a long-term international initiative that combines contemporary art, cultural heritage, digital technology and cultural diplomacy, creating a modern artistic chronicle of Independent Ukraine for the world.

🇺🇦 Every painting is the voice of a region.

🕊️ Every crane is a symbol of unity.

🎨 Every artist is an ambassador of Ukrainian culture.

Together we are creating an art map of Ukraine that is taking flight across the world.
