Aim of the initiative

The initiative aims to honour the memory of Ukraine’s fallen Defenders, men and women alike, to preserve their life stories for future generations, to support the families of the fallen and to convey to the international community the truth about the Ukrainian people’s struggle for freedom, independence and democratic values.

The project seeks to bring the Ukrainian community and Italian society together around the shared values of human dignity, remembrance, peace, freedom and international solidarity.

Format

The initiative will take the form of a memorial photo exhibition and a cultural and educational gathering.

The programme includes

  • an official opening
  • welcoming addresses by the organisers, partners and guests of honour
  • a presentation of the international project “Angels of Independence”
  • an exhibition of photographs, biographies and personal stories of Ukraine’s fallen Heroes
  • accounts of their lives, their military service and their heroic sacrifice
  • a minute of silence and a shared prayer for Ukraine’s fallen Defenders
  • a cultural and artistic programme
  • an opportunity for participants, representatives of the Ukrainian community, local authorities, civil society organisations and guests to meet and talk

All photographs, biographical materials and personal stories are used solely with the written consent of the families of Ukraine’s fallen Defenders, in accordance with the Memorandum of Cooperation concluded between the parties and in compliance with personal data protection requirements.

The initiative is organised by

  • National Congress of Ukrainian Associations in Italy (CNAUI)
  • Un Ponte di Colori (“A Bridge of Colours”) association
  • NGO “Families of Fallen Defenders of Ukraine ‘Heart Outside’”

Co-organisers of the initiative

  • Cross-party parliamentary group “Protection of the Wounded, Combatants and War Veterans and Their Families”
  • International Youth Academy of European Diplomacy

The initiative is held as part of the international memorial project “Angels of Independence”, under the Memorandum of Understanding between the parties.

Project coordination

The project coordinator in Italy is Anna Teslia, a member of the Un Ponte di Colori (“A Bridge of Colours”) association, which belongs to the National Congress of Ukrainian Associations in Italy (CNAUI).

The coordinator manages relations between the project partners, organises and runs the events, and coordinates cooperation with the families of Ukraine’s fallen Defenders, with representatives of state and municipal bodies, civil society organisations and cultural institutions, and with the host party; she is also responsible for implementing the international project “Angels of Independence” in the Italian Republic.
