The residence permit for temporary protection (permesso di soggiorno per protezione temporanea) has been extended until 31 December 2024. (Temporary protection permits can be converted into permits for work purposes.)
Italy has declared a state of emergency to ensure rescue and assistance for the population fleeing Ukraine:
- the state of emergency in Italy has been extended until 31 December 2024, together with the related spending authorisation of 274 million euros for 2024 (a limit of 7,000 units; financial support for those who have found their own accommodation; a contribution to the Regions for health care; further forms of assistance coordinated by the presidents of the Regions and the autonomous provinces);
- temporary protection residence permits issued to refugees arriving from Ukraine and expiring on 31 December 2023 have been extended until 31 December 2024.
Important!!! Temporary protection residence permits can be converted into residence permits for work (this involves paying a fee of 40 to 50 euros for the issue, renewal or conversion of the residence permit).
PLEASE NOTE! Temporary protection residence permits lose their validity and will be revoked even before they expire on 31 December 2024 if the European Union adopts a decision ending temporary protection.
