Looking for a job can be a difficult and stressful task, especially in a foreign country. But don’t worry! There are plenty of resources and strategies to help you find work that matches your skills and interests.
Let’s look at a few key steps you can take to start your job search:
- Set your goals: What kind of work do you enjoy? What do you want to get out of a job? What are your skills and experience?
- Research the market: What vacancies are available in your field and region? What are the requirements and expectations for these positions?
- Write your CV and cover letter: Your CV (curriculum vitae) is your marketing tool, so make sure it is well written and highlights your best qualities. Your cover letter is your chance to make a first impression on the employer, so make sure it is tailored and clearly explains why you are right for the job.
- Apply for vacancies: Don’t be afraid to apply for as many vacancies that interest you as possible. The more applications you send, the better your chances of getting a job. Keep an eye on potential employers’ websites and send your CV directly to their e-mail address or through their “Lavora con noi” (Work with us) section.
- Prepare for the interview: Research the company and the position you are applying for. Practise answering common interview questions.
- Build your network: Let friends, family and former colleagues know that you are looking for work. Go to industry events and conferences to meet people in your field.
Tips for a successful job search
- Be persistent: Finding a job can take time, so don’t give up. Remember: looking for a job is a job too! Keep applying for vacancies, going to interviews and growing your network of contacts.
- Stay positive: A positive attitude and self-confidence can lead you to success. Employers want people who are enthusiastic about their work and believe in their abilities.
- Be flexible: You may need to adjust your expectations a little to find a job. Be ready to consider different kinds of positions, employers and industries.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help: There are plenty of resources to help you look for work. Turn to friends, family, recruitment agencies or public employment services.
! Create a profile on the website of every recruitment agency (Agenzia per il lavoro); don’t wait for them to call you. Look through the vacancies in your region and send in your application yourself. Hand in your CV in person at organisations or establishments where you would like to work.
! Keep learning! There are now plenty of free courses (corsi gratuiti) online or in person, and evening classes for those who work. Ask around in your town or region. Recruitment agencies themselves often run vocational courses. It is never too late to retrain: a new profession can open the door to new opportunities.
Remember that remote work is an option too. Keep an eye on vacancies from recruitment agencies in Ukraine. And of course, learn languages! Then you’ll hold all the cards! Knock on every door, know your worth, and your persistence will pay off.
Remember: Everyone goes through the job search process. With a positive attitude and planning, you can find your dream job.
