Are you a Ukrainian in Italy who has just lost your job? Find out how to get the NASpI unemployment benefit — important clarifications.

Italy offers public support to people left without work, notably the NASpI unemployment benefit. It is granted to those who have lost their job through no fault of their own and is paid for a set period depending on the contributions paid and the length of employment.

In 2025 important changes were made to the rules for receiving NASpI. Now it is important to know:
who is entitled to the payments,
how much the benefit is,
and in which cases it stops.

Important: NASpI is not granted to those who resign voluntarily. Only workers dismissed at the employer’s initiative or whose contract has come to an end are entitled to it.

Remember! You must apply for NASpI no later than 68 days after your employment contract ends.

If you apply within the first 8 days, payments start from the 8th day after dismissal. If you apply later, payments start from the date of your application and you lose part of the benefit.

You can apply for NASpI in Italy in two ways:
– yourself, through the online platform of INPS (National Social Security Institute), logging in with SPID, CIE or CNS;
– or through a patronato (CAF), which submits the application on your behalf and gives you advice and support.

Both options are official and allow you to receive the payments if you meet the requirements.

To receive NASpI you must:
– have at least 13 weeks of social insurance contributions in the last 4 years;
– have at least 30 days of registered work in the last 12 months;
– submit a declaration of immediate availability for work (DID) to the Centro per l’impiego (job centre).

How long NASpI lasts
NASpI is paid monthly for a period equal to half the number of weeks of contributions paid in the last 4 years before the employment contract ended, but for no more than 24 months, i.e. two years.

In 2025 everyone who applies for NASpI is automatically registered on the SIISL platform (Sistema Informativo per l’Inclusione Sociale e Lavorativa — Information System for Social and Labour Inclusion). From then on they have 15 days (the person receives a text message) to log in to the portal, update their CV, provide the details needed for the Personalised Service Agreement (Patto di servizio personalizzato, PSP) and sign the Digital Activation Agreement (Patto di attivazione digitale, PAD).

How to register on the SIISL platform — a step-by-step guide

1. Accessing the platform
Go to the official SIISL website: (https://siisl.lavoro.gov.it)
Choose the citizens’ registration section.

2. Citizens log in with SPID, the electronic identity card (Carta d’Identità Elettronica, CIE) or the National Services Card (Carta Nazionale dei Servizi, CNS).

3. Uploading your CV
Once logged in, complete your profile: personal details, skills, work experience, professional interests.
You can upload your CV as a PDF or create it directly on the platform.

Registration on the SIISL platform is online only — applications in person are not accepted.

Do not put off registering: SPID is personal and not difficult to obtain, so you need to do this yourself. If you do not register in time, your NASpI payments will be suspended.
