Liudmyla – Craftswoman of Time and Beauty

Liudmyla Myroniak was born in picturesque Kolomyia, where rivers of memory flow between old trees and cobbled lanes. From her earliest years she watched her grandmothers’ hands create a magical world: one painted canvases in colours that brought stories to life, the other wove threads into fabric that sang of tradition. Her father carved pictures in wood, worked metal in repoussé and captured the moment in photographs. And Liudmyla collected pebbles and roots and designed clothes in her exercise books, as if piecing together the puzzle of her future work.

Her life has been like a river that changes its course but never stops. She studied at the Chernivtsi College of Light Industry, but fate led her down another path. Whatever her circumstances, she always found time to create. In 2009 her road brought her to Italy, where in her free hours she embroidered pictures, as if weaving into them an echo of her native land.

Two years ago, a chance story about the jewellery Ukrainian women used to wear awakened a new wave of inspiration in her. She had no special training and followed no one else’s techniques — she simply created. Her jewellery has come to embody the beauty and uniqueness of every woman, an echo of ancient traditions taking on contemporary forms. In her hands, stones are born anew and find a voice that tells stories without words.

Liudmyla is an artist who does not simply create: she brings memory back to life and preserves the soul of her land in the jewellery she carries out into the world.
