From Ultrasound Diagnostics to Intuitive Painting: Anna Teslia’s Journey

Anna Teslia was born in Dobromyl, in the Lviv region. In love with bright colours since childhood, she drew flowers in her maths exercise books and sometimes even on her school desk. Yet she chose a different career: she graduated from Lviv National Medical University, became a doctor specialising in ultrasound diagnostics and raised her children. For all her success in medicine, the dream of art, buried deep inside, never stopped making itself felt.
Everything changed in Italy, where Anna moved in 2017. It was there, at the age of 33, that she bought brushes, canvas and paints for the first time and set out on a new creative path. She studied with well-known Ukrainian and Italian artists and completed dozens of courses, including “Ukrainian Petrykivka” painting, oil painting, watercolour sketching and right-brain drawing.
After 24 February 2022 her art became not only a means of self-expression but also a source of support for many people. In Rovereto, in Trentino-Alto Adige, she organised art therapy sessions for Ukrainians who had fled the war.
She went on to hold a series of charity exhibitions entitled “I colori nella vita”, organised creative meetings and workshops for children and adults, and raised funds for Ukraine by selling her paintings.
Anna’s experience is truly unusual, ranging from helping to create the Street Art San Giorgio mural to painting the interior of an aerial acrobatics studio.
In 2023 and 2024 she held solo exhibitions, “Il mio mondo d’arte” and “Vivi la vita”, and took part in festivals in Bologna and Mantua together with the Ukrainian diaspora community “Ucraina Mantova”. Her works hang in homes across Italy and Ukraine. Meanwhile, the artist keeps on learning, runs workshops and helps others discover the artist within themselves.
Anna believes that art has the power to heal, and her paintings are the best proof of it.
They are also an important reminder that dreams have no expiry date.
