The Vyshyvanka Unites the World
Run by: Department of Culture
About the project
“The Vyshyvanka Unites the World” is an international project of the Department of Culture of the National Congress of Ukrainian Associations in Italy (CNAUI). The idea is simple: on the third Thursday of May, when the world celebrates Vyshyvanka Day (the vyshyvanka is the traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt), Ukrainians in many countries do one thing together. For the day’s 20th anniversary, the project gathered “I wear my vyshyvanka for…” photos and videos from all over the planet and edited them into a single film, while in Italy the vyshyvanka takes to the streets of Palermo, Milan, Bari, Salerno, Reggio Calabria, Florence and Lamezia Terme every year, with charity concerts, fairs and workshops raising funds to help Ukraine.
