Last week Ukrainians from across Italy were “embroidering” Victory as they celebrated the vyshyvanka (the traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt). Embroidered national shirts in every colour brightened the streets of Palermo and Milan, Bari and Salerno, Reggio Calabria and Florence.
Activists from the associations belonging to the COORDINAMENTO UNITARIO Ukrainians in Italy held charity concerts, fairs and workshops, raising money to help Ukraine.
The Italians particularly enjoyed the varenyky-making workshops, where they learned to make Ukrainian dumplings.
But the true centrepiece of every celebration was the Ukrainian vyshyvanka. Because wherever in the world we may be, we always remain Ukrainians and will always honour our traditions. Glory to Ukraine!
