CNAUI at the European Congress of Ukrainians, day one: strategic initiatives and new areas of cooperation

Congress#Congress updates

On 19-20 October, Brussels hosted the Annual General Meeting of the European Congress of Ukrainians (ECU), dedicated to the organisation’s 75th anniversary. The event brought together representatives of Ukrainian communities from 21 countries, a testament to our unity and shared values.

On 19 October the participants were welcomed by His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church; former ECU President Levko Dovhovych; the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets; Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Paul Grod; former UWC President Eugene Czolij; and Iryna Kluchkovska, Director of the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations.

An important part of the event was the discussion of strategic initiatives that will foster the development of Ukrainian communities around the world. In the working session, the meeting approved the reports on the ECU’s activities since the previous annual meeting, as well as amendments and additions to the ECU Statute. Rostyslav Sukennyk (Germany) was elected to the ECU Executive Board, replacing Yaroslava Khortiani (Hungary). A new ECU Audit Committee was elected: Halyna Masliuk (Greece), Pavlo Sadokha (Portugal) and Slavko Burda (Croatia). Four Ukrainian diaspora civic organisations from Slovenia, Moldova, North Macedonia and Finland were admitted as full members of the ECU.

The National Congress of Ukrainian Associations in Italy (CNAUI) attended as a guest of honour. This confirms our active role in the international community and our readiness to cooperate with other Ukrainian organisations abroad.

CNAUI’s participation in such an important event reflects our aim of supporting the Ukrainian diaspora and helping Ukrainians abroad preserve their identity. We continue to work on important initiatives for the integration and support of our fellow citizens outside Ukraine, notably through educational programmes and cultural projects. We thank all the participants for their active involvement in the event. Together we can achieve significant results in supporting the Ukrainian community!
