The Italian Chamber of Deputies hosts the conference “Dal diritto di voto alle leggi delle donne che hanno cambiato l’Italia”
13 May 2026, Rome — Sala della Regina, Palazzo Montecitorio
A delegation of the National Congress of Ukrainian Associations in Italy (CNAUI) took part in a high-level national event marking the 80th anniversary of the election of Italy’s Constituent Assembly and tracing the journey of Italian women from winning the right to vote to the landmark laws that changed the country.
Speakers included leading Italian women in politics, academia and public life:
- Anna Ascani — Vice-President of the Chamber of Deputies
- Livia Turco — President of the Fondazione Nilde Iotti, former minister
- Flavia Piccoli Nardelli — former Chair of the Culture Committee of the Chamber of Deputies
- Anna Maria Carloni — politician and expert on women’s rights
- Fiorenza Taricone — professor and scholar of women’s political thought
- Giuseppe Gargani — politician, former Member of the European Parliament
- Nastassja Habdank — representing the young generation of women in politics
Moderator: Giorgio Zanchini.
The event recalled the historic moment when Italian women first took part in political life as full citizens: the 1946 elections to the Constituent Assembly.
The discussion covered the key reforms that shaped the role of women in today’s society, from the Merlin Law to legislation on equality and on combating violence.
CNAUI’s participation was a gesture of solidarity with the women who today stand on the front line in defending democracy, freedom and human dignity.
A highlight of the event was the presentation to Livia Turco, President of the Fondazione Nilde Iotti, of the Charter of Rome (Carta di Roma), the official document establishing the European Dialogue Platform, signed in Rome on 28 April 2026.
The presentation of the Platform lays the groundwork for new partnerships, joint cultural initiatives and a stronger role for Ukraine in the European dialogue.
