Nataliia Derevianko: A Symbiosis of Great Talent and Inspired Work

Nataliia Volodymyrivna Derevianko is a distinguished Ukrainian artist, educator and cultural figure who combines deep spiritual roots with an innovative approach to art and education. Her life’s journey is an example of continuous self-development, many-sided talent and tireless devotion to art.

Roots and education: Born in Zaporizhzhia, a city steeped in legends of the Zaporozhian Cossacks, she grew up surrounded by the cultural codes of Ukrainian identity. In 1995 she graduated from the Ivan Trush Lviv College of Decorative and Applied Arts, where she discovered sacred art, which became the foundation of all her later work. That discovery set her professional course: she went on to the Lviv National Academy of Arts, graduating in 2001.

Sacred art and international recognition: Her gifts were not confined to academic walls. For the Ukrainian church in Mackwiller, France, she created the stained-glass window “The Annunciation”, which unites deep spirituality with a subtle artistic vision. The work has become a symbol of intercultural dialogue and artistic diplomacy.

Artistic practice: Since 2001 she has worked as a fine artist. Her repertoire spans painting, icon painting, book illustration and experimental techniques. Her works have been shown at national and international exhibitions and are held in private collections in many countries around the world, from France to Taiwan.

Teaching and research: Since 2006 Nataliia Volodymyrivna has taught design at leading higher education institutions in Zaporizhzhia. She is currently a professor in the Department of Design at Khortytsia National Academy. She holds a PhD in Pedagogical Sciences and the academic title of Associate Professor, and actively researches the impact of artificial intelligence on contemporary art and design. Her publications are indexed in leading academic databases such as Scopus and Index Copernicus.

Civic and organisational work: She is a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine and the Union of Designers of Ukraine. She initiated art competitions (including “Art-Khortytsia”) and has served on the juries of prestigious international events in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Poland. Her active part in Ukraine’s cultural life makes her a powerful voice in contemporary Ukrainian art.
