Ukrainian Art Weeks in Rome
From 30 June to 7 July 2026, the Esperienza Europa – David Sassoli space in Rome (Piazza Venezia, 6), with the support of the European Parliament Office in Italy, hosted “Tra radici e futuro” (“Between Roots and Future”), an exhibition by the Ukrainian artist Sofiia Mazurets, as part of the Ukrainian Art Weeks project.
Sofiia Mazurets is an artist and illustrator whose creative path began with digital drawing. She later discovered traditional painting, working in acrylic on canvas. Combining digital art with classical techniques has helped her develop a style of her own and a distinctive artistic vision.
The movement closest to Sofiia’s heart is Surrealism, which makes it possible to create images with many layers of meaning and to convey profound ideas. In her work she deliberately leaves room for personal interpretation, so that every viewer can find something of their own in it: their emotions, memories or thoughts. For Sofiia, it matters that her paintings do more than catch the eye — that they prompt an inner dialogue and reflection.
This is the idea behind “Tra radici e futuro”. Each work is an open space for individual perception, with no single correct reading. Running through the exhibition is the colour purple, a symbol of intuition, inner searching and the many facets of human feeling. Through its shades the artist conveys mood, atmosphere and emotional states, inviting viewers not only to look but to live an experience of their own in dialogue with art.
