The institutional event “Ukraine and the Defence of Europe” took place in Rome.
On 24 February 2026 the institutional event “Ukraine and the Defence of Europe” (“L’Ucraina e la Difesa dell’Europa”) was held at the Esperienza Europa – David Sassoli centre in Rome. It was organised by the European Parliament Office in Rome in cooperation with the European Commission Representation in Italy, Linkiesta and the National Congress of Ukrainian Associations in Italy APS (CNAUI).
The event focused on Ukraine’s role in defending European values, security and democratic principles in the face of today’s challenges. Particular attention was paid to the importance of solidarity among the Member States of the European Union and to support for Ukraine as an integral part of Europe’s community of values.
It is worth noting that CNAUI, besides co-organising the event, is the author and driving force behind the educational project “100×100: Bridges of Education”, which develops partnerships between Ukrainian and Italian schools. A special online session was held during the event for the schools that have joined the project, and it became a symbol of practical educational cooperation between the two countries.
The event brought together representatives of the European institutions, experts and civil society organisations, as well as pupils and teachers from various regions of Italy. The discussion showed a shared understanding that Ukraine today is defending not only its own statehood but also the fundamental principles of freedom, democracy and human dignity on which the European project is built.
Events of this kind help to deepen dialogue between civil society, educational institutions and the European institutions, and to strengthen the partnership between Ukraine and Italy.
Some 200 Ukrainian and Italian schools taking part in the “100×100: Bridges of Education” project joined the event.
