Our Ukrainian language course “Correcting Mistakes” starts very soon!
Fate has scattered Ukrainians all over the world. We live in different countries, but Ukraine is in our hearts. Hearing your own language far from home brings a warm ache to the soul: these are our people, our own! It is language that unites us and helps us keep our bond with our homeland and our culture.
So let us cherish our native tongue, for without it we are “like chaff without grain, a sunflower without the sun, an oak grove without birds” (Yu. Rybchynskyi).
Knowing a language is not just about being able to speak it and knowing the words; it also means being able to write it well. Today we communicate a great deal on social media, writing posts, messages and comments, and the quality of that communication depends on how correctly we write: mistakes do not only say something about the writer’s level of culture, they can also distort the meaning of what is being said.
