Ukrainian Women’s Day: how to honour the finest women of the nation
On 25 February Ukraine celebrates Ukrainian Women’s Day, also known as Ukrainka Day.
The day is dedicated to the birth of the outstanding Ukrainian writer and public figure Lesia Ukrainka, who became a symbol of the resilience, strength, endurance, care and dreaminess of Ukrainian women.
Ukrainian women have always played an important part in shaping Ukraine’s national identity, culture, language and history.
- They were not only homemakers, mothers and wives, but also soldiers, politicians, scientists, artists, sportswomen, civic activists and much more.
- They stood up for their rights and freedoms, for dignity, peace and democracy, and for Ukraine’s sovereignty and European choice.
- They created unrivalled works of art, science and literature that belong to the world’s heritage.
- They inspired, supported, raised, healed and saved others, and sacrificed themselves for their families, their people and their homeland.
Ukrainian Women’s Day is a wonderful occasion to remember all those who have contributed to Ukraine’s development, and to thank the Ukrainian women of today who go on making history.
- It is a day when we can show Ukrainian women our respect, love, gratitude, support, protection and care.
- It is a day when we can give them flowers, compliments, attention, warmth, joy and happiness.
- It is a day when we can show them that they are the most important, the dearest and the best people in our lives.
Woman is Ukraine, Mother is Berehynia, guardian of the hearth!
May these words be not just a slogan but a reality.
- May Ukrainian women always feel loved, healthy and happy.
- May they have equal rights, opportunities, conditions and prospects.
- May they fulfil their potential, talent and creativity.
- May they see their own beauty, worth and strength.
- May they live in peace, harmony and prosperity.
- They are our pride, our inspiration and an example to us all.
