Lanivtsi–Mondragone: first steps of an international partnership

A delegation of the National Congress of Ukrainian Associations in Italy (CNAUI) took part in the international conference “Friends of Ukraine Forum 2025”, organised by its partners the Mayors’ Club of Ukraine, UMEDA – the Ukrainian Municipal Economic Development Agency, and the civil society organisation Dobrobat.
Live link-up between Lanivtsi and Mondragone
The forum included an online dialogue between Ukraine and Italy, with the participation of:
- Roman Kaznovetskyi, Mayor of Lanivtsi, together with his deputy Oleh Kazmirchuk
- Alessandro Lavanga, Mayor of the Italian town of Mondragone
The participants discussed the importance of international friendship, partnership and mutual support.
“At this difficult time, international support is crucial for Ukraine. Joint projects between our towns will foster development, closer cooperation and the exchange of experience,”
For his part, Alessandro Lavanga assured the Ukrainian people of the Italian community’s solidarity, stressing that expanding cooperation between the towns is an important step in Ukraine’s integration into the European space.
Exchanging symbols of friendship
As a sign of mutual support and cooperation, the Ukrainian delegation presented the representatives of Mondragone with a Ukrainian flag, symbolising the unity of cultures, the strength of the people and the partnership between the two communities.
On 9 May CNAUI President Lara Levchun met the Mayor of Mondragone, Alessandro Lavanga, and presented him with the Ukrainian flag. In return, the Italian side gave an Italian flag, marking the start of a new partnership between the towns.
Next steps: an official delegation in May
The meeting marked an important stage in the international partnership between Lanivtsi and Mondragone. A delegation from Lanivtsi is expected to arrive in Italy in May to continue the talks and sign a cooperation agreement.
Lara Levchun highlighted the important role of people-to-people diplomacy in developing international partnerships:
“A real partnership between towns is not just about documents, but about a living dialogue between people. Joint cultural and economic initiatives make it possible to build cooperation at community level, strengthening international friendship and support.”
This is another step towards deeper international cooperation between Ukraine and Italy, aimed at mutual understanding, partnership and the development of joint projects.
