Larysa Sandiuk: Art as a Reflection of the Ukrainian Soul

Larysa Petrivna Sandiuk was born on 3 December 1971 in Nadvirna, in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. She trained at the Kosiv Technical College of Folk Arts and Crafts and went on to study at the Lviv Academy of Arts.
Today Larysa Sandiuk is a senior lecturer in the Department of Fine, Decorative and Applied Arts and Restoration. She is a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, a fashion designer and a master of batik, the art of painting on fabric.
Her batiks enchant with their refined detail and the depth of their subjects. The flowers that bloom across her canvases convey the tenderness, strength and inexhaustible energy of the Ukrainian land.

“For me, art is more than creative work. It is a way of telling the world about our people, their traditions and their spiritual depth. Exhibitions of Ukrainian artists in Italy are a bridge between cultures, a chance to share the true Ukrainian spirit with those who have not yet felt its beauty,” Larysa stresses.
Larysa lived in Rome for a long time, where she was able to deepen her artistic practice and follow European trends in art at first hand. She would also like to hold an exhibition of her work in the Italian capital, to show genuine Ukrainian art to a wide audience.

“Our paintings are not just paint on canvas. They are the voice of Ukraine, its soul, its history. I want Europeans to understand us through art, to feel our pain and our strength. For every artist, being the voice of their people matters,” the artist adds.
