Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of National Unity Oleksii Chernyshov meets the Ukrainian community in Rome
Congress#Congress updates
The meeting began with a prayer in the Basilica of Saint Sophia, the national church of Ukrainians in Rome, which became a symbol of the bond between the Ukrainian diaspora and the spiritual traditions and values of the homeland.
Minister of National Unity Oleksii Chernyshov presented the project to establish UKRAINIAN UNITY CENTRES.
During the meeting, those present had the opportunity to put questions to the Minister about how the centres will work and about wider issues facing the diaspora.
Engaging with the Ukrainian community
Lara Levchun, President of the National Congress of Ukrainian Associations in Italy (CNAUI), told the Minister that since 2023 a voluntary alliance, the Coordination Centre, has been active in Italy and now has more than 40 members. It is a platform for future initiatives, and the more associations join, the better, since each has its own interests and chooses its own area of activity.
Lara Levchun stressed that bringing associations together around shared interests has, over two years, produced positive results at national level. She also described the structure of the National Congress of Ukrainian Associations in Italy and its departments, noting that the Congress could serve as a model for similar alliances in the future.
Nataliia Nevalenna, President of the Gioia association in Pescara and a project coordinator at the Congress, presented the work of the Department of International Cooperation, in particular the “Brotherhood Across Borders” project, which twins Ukrainian and Italian towns and cities.
The representatives of the National Congress of Ukrainian Associations in Italy actively support the new Ministry’s initiatives, firmly convinced that the only way to succeed is to act as one team, building effective communication between the state and the diaspora.
Only joint work and open dialogue can deliver real results and foster development in every field.
