The film by Ukrainian journalist and photographer Mstyslav Chernov has been nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature. It is painful to watch, but everyone needs to see this footage.
Made together with photographer Yevhen Maloletka and producer Vasylysa Stepanenko, the film was shot during the siege of Mariupol in the course of the Russian invasion. The Associated Press journalists were the last international correspondents left in the city, recording the humanitarian catastrophe and the war crimes. The film has shaken audiences with harrowing footage of the invasion, the mass graves of civilians and the heroic work of doctors.
Chernov and Maloletka sent out their photos and videos while hiding under a staircase next to a wrecked grocery shop — the only spot in Mariupol that still had a connection.
“20 Days in Mariupol” has already won numerous awards, including the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, and received two nominations at the BAFTAs, the British Academy Film Awards.

Our heartfelt thanks to Zhanna Zhukova and Olha Korenkova of the “My Voglia APS” association
for the screening of “20 Days in Mariupol”, which they organised in Naples for the first time on 4 March.
Your contribution to raising awareness and supporting Ukrainian culture is invaluable. This screening was an important step in drawing attention to what is happening in Ukraine, creating a space to discuss the key issues and offering a chance to understand the situation more deeply.
We are considering screening the film again in Naples and in other Italian cities.
