On 1 September the Coordination Centre of Ukrainian Associations in Italy is organising the Forum of Ukrainian Teachers in Italy.
The aim of the Forum: to support the implementation of the resolution “Urgent call to Europe and its partners: provide immediate and long-term policy solutions in support of displaced persons from Ukraine”, adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) at its summer session on 27 June 2024.
Invited: the Chair of the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Mr Oleksii Honcharenko; representatives of the Ministry of Education; representatives of CIMEA; representatives of the Italian Consulate in Ukraine; the territorial school offices; trade unions; Ukrainian teachers who will share their experience of joining the Italian education system.
Speaker: Lara Levchun, President of the Coordination Centre of Ukrainian Associations in Italy
✅We will look at the three main points of the PACE Resolution:
- Recognition of qualifications obtained in Ukraine, providing, where necessary, further training to complete them in line with Italian law.
- Priority for Ukrainian-language teaching for Ukrainian children in Italian schools, given the role of language in preserving national identity.
- Programmes to help the Ukrainian diaspora keep its ties with Ukraine by setting up Ukrainian cultural centres, promoting the study of the language, culture and history, and fostering cooperation within the Ukrainian community with a view to an eventual return.
✅ To date, the Coordination Centre of Ukrainian Associations in Italy has:
- submitted a petition to the Senate of the Italian Republic;
- held an online meeting with representatives of CIMEA;
- sent a letter of recommendation to the Ministry of Education;
- written to every territorial school office, outlining the resolution and calling for its full implementation;
- set up a register of Ukrainian teachers ready to work actively in Italian schools to put the provisions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s resolution into practice.

The event will be an important step in carrying out these initiatives and will help Ukrainian pupils settle into the Italian education system.
The Senate of the Italian Republic has examined the petition of the Coordination Centre of Ukrainian Associations in Italy, and a Senate committee will take it up.
This is the first concrete step towards implementing the PACE Resolution in Italy.
For now we have three starting points
- Simpler recognition of Ukrainian diplomas in Italy
- Ukrainian-language teaching in Italian schools
- Funding for the diaspora to set up centres of Ukrainian culture, schools and out-of-school centres
