Representatives of the Coordination Centre of Ukrainian Associations attended an open lesson at the Lesia Ukrainka school in Naples dedicated to the great poet’s birthday.

Tetiana Makukh, President of the “Ukrainian Women in Italy” association and a primary school teacher, opened the lesson by telling the story of the poet’s life. At the end of her talk she asked questions, which the children answered eagerly, showing a thorough knowledge of the facts of the poet’s life.

Together, teachers and pupils created an atmosphere of patriotism and love for their homeland.

The open lesson not only explored Lesia Ukrainka’s life and work but also highlighted the important role the school plays in raising true patriots.

Dressed in Ukrainian traditional clothes, the children recited Lesia Ukrainka’s poems, danced and sang. The fourth-year pupils performed the play “Need Will Teach You”. There was even a competition for mothers and daughters to braid the finest Ukrainian plait.

The mood created by the children and teachers carried everyone present to Ukraine for a while. On this special day the Ukrainian school in Naples proved to be not only a place of learning but also an important ambassador of Ukrainian spirit and culture abroad.
