Resilient Education: Practices of Intercultural Reconstruction between Italy and Ukraine
Congress#International cooperation

On 28 April 2026 the University of Bari Aldo Moro hosted the international conference “Resilient Education: Practices of Intercultural Reconstruction between Italy and Ukraine” (L’Educazione Resiliente: pratiche di ri-costruzione interculturale tra Italia e Ucraina). Organised by the association “Uniti per l’Ucraina” APS–ETS in collaboration with the University of Bari Aldo Moro and Ukrainian partners, the event brought together teachers, researchers, representatives of public institutions and members of the Ukrainian diaspora for an open discussion on the resilience of the education system in wartime and on the prospects for Italian–Ukrainian cooperation in education.
“Horizontal diplomacy” as a tool for reconstruction
The conference set out to share the experience gained in both countries through “horizontal diplomacy”: a grassroots approach built on personal relationships and hands-on experience, which develops networks of cooperation between schools, universities, communities and civil society organisations. The initiative was also part of the seminar programme of the Sociology of Education course for future primary and nursery school teachers at DIRIUM, University of Bari.
