33 years. That is how long Ukraine has existed as an independent nation. A number of deep significance: the age of Christ at the time of his crucifixion, a symbol of sacrifice for the salvation of humanity. And, like Christ, Ukraine too is living through its Golgotha, fighting for ten long years now for its salvation, for its freedom.
Over these ten years the Ukrainian people have shown extraordinary courage and determination. They have held firm, and continue to hold firm, in the face of immense hardship. Ukraine’s struggle is not merely a question of borders or sovereignty; it is a battle for the fundamental values that define humanity itself: peace, freedom and justice.
Today, as Ukraine marks the anniversary of its independence, the world should reflect on this young nation which, with an ancient heart and a strong soul, goes on fighting for its very existence. A cry for help rises from its ravaged lands: “Help us live.” It is not simply a request; it is a cry of pain, a heartfelt prayer. “Resist to exist” is the motto that guides the Ukrainian people, a daily reality they face with dignity and resolve.
The history of Ukraine is a living testament to the strength of the human spirit, to the will to live free and in dignity despite every adversity. The world is watching and, with a sincere heart, offers its support and its thoughts to this brave nation.
Glory to Ukraine!
Glory to the Nation!
