On Saturday 27 January, from 3 pm to 7 pm, in Piazza Napoleone, there will be a rally in support of Ukraine and “against Russian propaganda in Italy, organised by more than twenty associations and political and civic movements of different backgrounds”.
Alberto Baccini, provincial chair of Italia Viva, has backed the protest. “In recent weeks a number of pro-Putin initiatives were planned in various cities, including Lucca,” he comments. “In our city, as elsewhere, these plans collapsed thanks to public outrage and mobilisation. Saturday’s demonstration will send a signal to the public about the dangerous proliferation of pro-Putin events.”
All citizens and institutions are invited to take an active part in the protest: on Saturday, by being present in Piazza Napoleone, to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people, who for two years have suffered military attacks by Putin’s Russia.
A new event is already known to be planned for February in Florence: the screening of a propaganda film about the Russian military intervention in Ukraine.
Storm over a pro-Putin film. Two associations, Firenze Rinasce and Firenze Consapevole, are organising a screening in Florence, the Tuscan capital, of the Russian film «Il Testimone» (“The Witness”) about the Donbas, which distorts and twists real events and promotes the pro-Moscow position. The event is scheduled for 1 February at 8:30 pm at the Teatro dell’Affratellamento in Via Gianpaolo Orsini; admission is free.
